Media Work Experience

This area of our business covers everything from the people who present the TV, through to the Camera Operators and Editors. To join the great people here, you’ll need to be genuinely passionate about TV – about making it, about shaping it and about watching it.

All of our work experience programmes are un-waged but successful applicants will receive £15 a day towards their travel and expenses.

We also have a limited number of bursary placements will be available to those candidates from economically disadvantaged backgrounds that would normally be unable to take up a placement due to financial reasons.

Sky Careers

Entertainment Work Experience – Production Runner

Our team at Sky Vision Productions are looking for someone as committed to making quality TV as they are. You could join them for a week’s work experience as a production runner. You’ll be based in the office and on set, and get stuck into making a factual entertainment TV show. 

Duration: 5 or 7 days (Monday to Sunday) Monday 18th – Friday 22nd May, Tuesday 26th May - Sunday 31st May. 

Requirements: Along with being super passionate about how a TV show is made, you must be over 18, and ideally be able to drive and have your own car.

Locations: Harefield, (North West London, just south of Watford)

Expenses: The placement is un-waged but successful applicants will receive £15 a day towards their travel and expenses.

Work Experience in Entertainment

Sky Entertainment is a highly creative, busy and exciting department, covering a wide range of areas – Production, Commissioning, Acquisitions, Network Planning, Movies Production and Music to name a few. We pride ourselves on being one of the best entertainment sectors in the media industry, providing un-missable content for our customers.

This is your chance to spend time amongst some of the most talented teams in the industry, experiencing what it’s like to work in a fast paced environment. Working as a runner, you will get first-hand experience on how a channel runs, as well as gaining an insight into all aspects of the teams.

Requirements: You must be at least 16 years of age, be able to demonstrate a passion for TV and the content we produce here at Sky and have the people skills to work in a busy and vibrant office. 

Dates and duration: 1 week, we are currently booking in slots between April and August 2015.

Work Experience in Make Up

Our team of professional make-up and hair stylists boasts a wealth of talent.  With experience across all broadcast genres including drama, light entertainment, music, current affairs, fashion and editorial, we have a reputation for creativity and attention to detail.

We’re offering a one day work shadowing opportunity so you can see first-hand what the job of a make-up artist at Sky involves.

Requirements: You must have completed or be studying a relevant make-up course and demonstrate a specific interest in make-up for TV.

Work Experience in Sky Creative

Sky Creative is an award winning, highly creative, busy and exciting department. It provides an in-house creative agency service for business areas across the whole of Sky, delivering brilliant conceptual ideas, creative, design and interactive solutions for a wide range of business requirements across all media. Sky Creative combines On-air Promo, Design & Graphics, Interactive and Print departments all in one.

Requirements: We are looking for budding artists, designers, film makers, digital gurus, or those who are just generally creative with some experience of using graphics software and have ideas. You must have a pro-active attitude and be aged 18 and over.

Dates: August: 17th, 31st 
               September: 14th, 28th
               October: 12th, 26th

Duration: 5 days (Monday to Friday)

Work Experience in Journalism- Journalism Insight Day

Work Experience in Sky Production Services

Sky Production Services is a team of over 700 talented people who make sure that our customers’ have a great content experience; from the pictures they see to the sound they hear. You’ll get first-hand real-life production experience as well as seeing how everything behind the scenes in the office work

Requirements: You must be over 18, and have a passion for production and an interest in finding out more about a career in the operational crafts and disciplines associated with programme making such as cameras, lighting, scenery, editing, ingest and media management to name just a few.

Duration: 3 days (Tuesday to Thursday)

Work Experience in Sky Sports News HQ

At Sky Sports News HQ, we pride ourselves on being first for breaking sports news and we have the best productions teams in the business. Our 24 hour news operation ensures that content is shared fast and accurately across our range of platforms - TV, mobile, online, radio and iPad.

During your time with us, you’ll be exposed to all aspects of our 24-hour news operation; everything from writing scripts to shadowing one of our top reporters.

Requirements: You’ll need to be currently be studying for (not graduated in) an NCTJ or a BJTC accredited course. You'll be 18 years or older and be able to write 100 words per minute shorthand. Above all, you must have an undeniable passion for sports and be able to deliver brilliant work.

Duration: 2 weeks
