Our teams at Sky News Millbank are at the heart of our Westminster operation hosting a team of eight Senior Correspondents and four News Editors. As a team they set the direction of our political stories, assigning resource accordingly. They're also part of our central London operation, working closely with other specialist teams like Business and Economics, and in the event of breaking news are often the first to be called upon.

The role

Sky news is looking to recruit a senior news editor to our political newsgathering team.  The candidate will drive the daily political agenda from our Westminster office leading a team of 4 news editors. The daily requirements include presenting the political agenda at all day and planning meetings, assigning correspondents to stories, prioritising and assigning newsgathering resources and playing a key role in delivering big set piece events including conferences, debates and elections.

Your key responsibilities
  • Lead the Westminster team, both editorially and logistically, on a daily basis.
  • Plan for big political events, conferences, elections etc.
  • Communicate our planning ideas with head office.
Your skills

The ideal candidate should have experience of leading a team, a track record in taking big editorial decisions, a solid understanding of Westminster and the political narrative and a good contact book.

  • Experience of leading a team and evidence of taking big editorial decisions.
  • Solid knowledge of the Westminster operations and good contacts.
  • Experience of working in a multi-platform newsroom.
  • A creative thinker with good production ideas.
